| Jutting out into the southeast corner of Plymouth
Sound, the small Mount Batten peninsular has played a vital role in the
defence of England for hundreds of years. As an important RAF base, it
was the headquarters for the first Seaplanes and then the famous Sunderland
Flying Boats. |
| Mount Batten today boasts a new 450-berth
marina, a water sports centre, chandlery shops, scuba diving centre and
restaurants. A regular water taxi, which runs all year round, links Mount
Batten with the Barbican. |
| Mount Batten also hosts many of Plymouths
major maritime events and the spectacular National Firework Competition,
which is one of the highlights of the summers activities. |
| Staddon Heights Golf Club, Fort Bovisand Underwater
Centre and the pretty sandy beaches of Bovisand Bay, are just around the
corner. |
